When I was 5 or so, my mother taught me to sew. A running stitch, doll clothes, quilt patches, and finally my own clothes that actually fit. When my own daughter was born in 2001, making her first crib bedding and tiny clothing seemed the ideal outcome from that first lesson more than twenty years ago.

Woopsie Baby Designs was born when I made my first embellished burp cloths for my friend's daughter, Hadley. Her sister coveted them, and I made her a stack. I made myself a stack, and found that even spit-up could be turned into a bright spot. Along the way, people asked, "Where'd you get those?"

Woopsie Baby got its start on a small kitchen table in Manhattan. We've finally graduated to a home office, but only with the enormous support of family and friends. Without the passing down of craft and skill, my mother's gift to me, this would not exist. My husband and daughter have shown great flexibility when I've said "Woopsie! I forgot about dinner!"

My daughter drags three Woopsie Baby security blankets with her wherever she goes. She's recently added a second nursery throw to her private collection. Our infant son looks for his two Woopsie Blankies when he needs a little extra comfort. I hope that our burp cloths and blankets add a similar bright spot to the life of your child.
