Dear Valued Customers –
After five wonderful years sharing our handmade products with your children, Woopsie Baby Designs is closing its virtual doors. We do not make this decision lightly, but rather out of necessity. Recent regulations passed by the Consumer Products Safety Commission will require all manufacturers of baby and children’s products to participate in testing, certification, and tracking label programs that are beyond the scope of a small, handicraft business. While we are certain, based on the careful sourcing and hand-made nature of our products, that the merchandise you have purchased here is safe for your children, we applaud the CPSC for striving to enact stronger standards. In fact, we are not closing our doors because we think our products will not meet the standards of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act; we know that they will. We are closing our doors because the testing and labeling requirements are beyond the capital means of small businesses like ours. In short, testing our products in government approved labs will cost us more money than we actually make selling our products to you. It is our goal to return sometime in 2009. Hopefully, the law and home-based craft businesses can meet halfway, in a place where safety standards and the realities of small business work together to serve our children.
